Italianate Germans & Germanic Italians

The Schubert Club | The Landmark Center
Sahar Hassan (mezzo-soprano), Phillip Rukavina & Paul Berget (lutes) and Mary Virginia Burke (gamba), Ginna Watson (violin) & Chris Brown (bass) present Italianate Germans & Germanic Italians, focusing on the exchange of musical styles, forms and influences that came about when Italians worked in Germany and Germans studied in Italy. The group will present music from the 17th century, when creative traffic, back and forth between the two countries, truly took off in the course of cultural tourism.

Presenting music of the 17th century, the Ensemble travels between London and Paris, from the Isles to the Continent: Across the Channel and backexploring music of English and French masters, Purcell, Blow, Eccles, Lambert, Moulinié, Marais and Ballard. We continue our journey with Italianate Germans and Germanic Italians, focusing on the exchange of musical styles, forms and influences that came about when Italian composers, Marini and Castaldi, worked in Germany and Germans, Keiser, Rosenmüleller, Kapsberger and Weiss, studied in Italy, while creative traffic, between the two countries, truly took off in the course of cultural tourism.
